On January 8, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council held the 2017 National Scientific and Technological Award conference in the Great Hall of the People. The “Research and Application of New Generation AC Drive Fast Passenger Electric Locomotive” Project, which is led by CRRC and participated by CRRC ZELC mainly, won the second prize.
At present, the new generation AC Drive fast passenger electric locomotive has been delivered over 1200 units to more than ten Railway Companies including Xi 'an, Shenyang and Wuhan etc. The vehicles are widely used in the Beijing-Shanghai line, Beijing-Guangzhou line, and Longhai line.
The HXD1D type electric locomotive with speed of 160 km/h developed by CRRC ZELC is one of the typical models of this project, it has the feature of high power, fast start acceleration speed, adapting to environment, working for long distance and high intelligent level, etc. For its red appearance, it is also called "Big Red Date".
The mass use of this electric locomotive brings significant development: firstly, it greatly improves the train operation speed and safety of our railway passenger-carry vehicles, and provides support for railway speed acceleration and facilitates the travel of citizens. Secondly it promoted the development of high-speed passenger-carry electric locomotive technology in China and improved the international competitiveness of China's advanced rail transit equipment. It also stimulates the development of more than 20 industries, such as electrical industry and material industry.
The National Science and Technology Award is evaluated annually, including National Natural Science Award, State Technological Invention Award, and National Scientific and Technological Progress Award, which is commonly referred to as the "National Three Awards". The National Science and Technology Award of CRRC ZELC has been awarded as follows: in 1989, "SS4 type Electric Locomotive" won the first prize of National Scientific and Technological Progress Award; In 1999, "SS8 type Electric Locomotive" won the second prize of National Scientific and Technological Progress Award; In 2014, the second prize of national science and technology progress was awarded to "the Development and Application of Series High-power AC Drive Electric Locomotive Based on Autonomous Technology Platform".
